Christmas has come and gone, and a new year has just begun. I can hardly believe it - how does life go by so quickly? We were completely slammed in December with finals, then we took off for a visit to Scott's family in Ohio. It was a nice Christmas, but much too fast. My baby, Bodie, turned one year on the 27th. We are all doing well, just resting up before school gets started again. We have some cool new things we are attempting this year in our life, but I don't really feel like getting into them just yet. I just wanted to post something, so you all know we are alive and doing ok. Happy 2009!

  • Wonderful Weekend

We have had a wonderful thanksgiving weekend! We started early, on Wednesday, with a family play day at the Children's Museum in Denver. Spent Thanksgiving at a friends house with my parents and sister in law. Scott had a business trip on Friday (the only sad part of our weekend ), but the kids and I decorated all day Friday and Saturday. I love the house at Christmas. It always feels so cozy. Scott returned this morning, and now everyone is napping. Sigh ... do we really have to go back to the school/work week?? I am so not ready ..... Why can't Christmas break be ALL of December? Hope you all had a great thanksgiving too!

  • I am in the midst of an intense study of the civil rights movement, especially in the North, and ran across this interesting quote that rings true today:

"History says, don't hope on this side of the grave. But then, once in a lifetime the longed for tidal wave of justice can rise up, and hope and history rhyme." Seamus Heany

I found it in "Stone of Hope" (an excellent study of how the prophetic tradition influenced the civil rights leaders in the South) For a really great history of the struggle in the North, check out a brand new book called "Sweet Land of Liberty" by Thomas Sugrue. It will open your eyes.  Now you know what I have been up to  Trying to prepare for a mega-paper on civil rights, some of the most riveting history I have ever read.

  • Election Night Party!

So I am a couple of days behind .... but we had our own little election party on Tuesday night! We scarfed pizza and pumpkin pie and watched the returns. What better way to teach Makeyle about the election process and how blessed we are to have the privilege of voting?! We are truly nerdy, I know, and I am sure we are dooming our daughter to nerdom as well - but how many 5 yr olds know all about the electoral college, hmmm? So here are a couple of fun pics of our night:

This is Keyle with her map. She colored in each state as it was called, and this map also told us the number of electoral college votes for each state.

    139

We also had a long graph to count the number of electoral votes that each candidate had. Keyle usually colored these in too, but here is Scott filling in some for McCain.

    138

And here is all of us on Halloween. Nothing to do with the election, but it's a fun pic.

Woke up this morning to the first snow of the season ... there is always something really special about that first snow, and this California girl never gets tired of it!
